Why Ballet?

To me, ballet is my ultimate art form. It is a union of athleticism and artistry, requiring physical, mental, and emotional energy. The strict technique lends me a language of movements that allow me to express myself in my entirety.

I highly recommend taking a ballet or dance class to anyone of any age and level! It doesn't have to matter how good you are or whether you're on a professional track, if you love dance it will love you back.

Experience

I began ballet in 2012 at Soo Dance Academy in the East Bay, where I performed roles such as Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, Odette in Swan Lake, and Snow and Flower queens in The Nutcracker. In 2017 I bid farewell to Soo's, though it will always be the studio I call my home, to join The New Ballet School. After two years at NBS I have recently become a company member at South Valley Ballet as well as an instructor on their school's staff at South Valley Classical Arts Academy.

I have also participated in PushFest Youth in a beautiful piece choreographed by Mariana Sobral, and am currently working with the exuberant and talented Meghan Horowitz on a new work for PushFest SF this September.

To supplement my traditional performances and training, I have travelled abroad during summers to study at Ballet West and Royal Danish Ballet, both have been indescribably valuable experiences that have enriched my knowledge of ballet, my mastery of technique, and my love of the ballet community.

I have also served as a dancer in Opera San Jose's productions of Die Fledermaus (2019) and Pagliacci (2018). Working with the Opera presents new and exciting challenges, as well as introducing me to another stunning classical art form!

Improvisation

Improvisation proves me a useful tool for exploring movement outside of the classical ballet technique. It's an informal method of self-expression and an exercise is creativity!

To me, improvisation allows emotion and feeling express themselves without being subjected to the filtering, skewing, denial, or bias of the conscious mind.

Below is a clip of some improvisation I recorded in early August 2019, hope you enjoy it!
